Aphalt Shingle Brands
Asphalt shingles have long been the primary product applied in residential roofing. There are three very notable manufacturers that offer the best roofing materials for Connecticut’s climate. These are GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed.
GAF is America’s largest manufacturer of roofing and offers great products. 3 tab shingles, which are flat and inexpensive, were the popular choice in the past, but many homeowners have largely switched to the more architectural Timberline shingle. The Timberline offers excellent wind resistance for windy areas in Connecticut. Both are excellent for asphalt roof replacement.
Connecticut is prone to roof-damaging rain, snow, and wind. GAF introduced a variant of the Timberline shingle appropriately named ArmorShield II. This new twist on asphalt shingle roofing provides an SBS additive, which makes the shingle more pliable and resistant to hail damage. United Laboratories, the leading testing agency for exterior products, has ranked ArmorShield with the highest impact resistance. Insurance companies recognize this impact resistance and favor hail resistant products like ArmorShield, allowing owners to receive insurance discounts every year. The Timberline shingle also offers wind resistance for gusts up to 130 mph!
GAF has introduced popular Sequoia and triple thick trilaminate Grand Canyon shingles as a superior choice to attain the look of cedar shake shingles, without the fire hazard and weak impact resistance. GAF also offers some other great designer shingles for a unique and distinctive look. Call an AM PM Roofing expert today to see the great GAF products. AAM is proud to have been selected by GAF as a factory approved roofer that offers superior warranty coverage not available from other contractors. AAM is your best choice for Roofing in Connecticut!
Another option for asphalt roof replacement is Owens Corning. Owens Corning has a similar product line like shingle manufacturers GAF and CertainTeed. The Owens Corning Duration shingle line is a popular architectural shingle in the Connecticut market.
AM PM is also a leading installer of GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed asphalt shingles.
CertainTeed’s Landmark architectural shingle is designed to mimic the appearance of cedar shake roofing. It is available in a stellar array of colors that go well with any trim or siding.
The Patriot is a single layered asphalt shingle that uses CertainTeed’s advanced color technology to simulate the depth of multi-layered architectural shingles.
Three major types of asphalt shingles on the market
Strip Shingles are the original and the most basic of roofing shingles available in the industry. Strip Shingles are denoted by the fact that they are single layered roofing shingles that are generally designed to look like slate. Strip Roofing Shingles have a very flat appearance on the roof line and are typically the lightest weight roofing shingles available in the market. Strip shingles used to be the predominant roofing shingle available and used in the market. Today, however, with significant advances in technology and consumer sophistication, Strip Shingles are used primarily by home builders manufacturing economy priced homes or purchased by homeowners as replacement roofing shingles for homes that already have Strip Shingles on the roof.
Dimensional Shingles (or Architectural Laminated Shingles) are now the predominant roofing shingles installed in North America. These products are manufactured as dual layered or multi-layered products, and provide a thicker and richer appearance on the roof (a multi-dimensional look). Dimensional Roofing Shingles also typically are heavier weight than Strip Roofing Shingles and usually have improved warranty protections, which can range from 30-years to Lifetime.
Luxury Shingles are usually described as laminated shingles that have a differentiated appearance or functionality from traditional Dimensional Roofing Shingles. These products may have designs that mimic “old-world” roofing shingles, like natural slate or natural shake roofing shingles. Luxury Roofing Shingles might also have important functional improvements such as Impact Resistance or Solar Reflectivity that can possibly extend the life of the roofing system or provide lower energy costs.
